This is one of the real advantages of staying in the village — you can go out for breakfast, lunch, cocktails and dinner without having to drive. Also Gomes, the corner shop selling an eye watering variety of produce, along with a fresh fish shop and excellent butcher are mere minutes away. A larger supermarket and additional services can be found in Carvalhal, approximately 15 minutes by car.

Getting to Comporta
Comporta Village House is easily reached from Lisbon Airport, making it a convenient destination for a relaxing escape from the city. By car, the journey is generally around 1 and a half hours, depending upon the route and traffic. The usual road route takes you south from Lisbon across the Tagus and towards the Comporta Peninsula. For a more scenic arrival, you can take the Tróia-Setubal car ferry, before continuing south towards Comporta. The ferry crossing offers a particularly lovely introduction to the area and if you're lucky, you may even spot dolphins along the way. Also, arrival from the Algarve region is only a few hours drive north, offering further diversity & an interesting combination.
A car is recommended if you want to explore the beaches, countryside and wider Comporta region. Once you arrive at the house, however, the advantage of staying in the village is that many restaurants, cafes and local shops are within walking distance.

Carvalhal
Approximately 15 minutes by car south of Comporta, Carvalhal has its own village atmosphere, with restaurants, shops and access to the beautiful Praia do Carvalhal. It is an easy trip for lunch or dinner, or shopping and a day at the beach.

Alcácer do Sal
Inland along the Sado River, Alcácer do Sal is a historic riverside town with traditional Portuguese character, a castle overlooking the town and the surrounding countryside. It makes an interesting change of scenery from the coast and well worth a visit if staying more than a few days.

Grândola is the main inland town of the region and offers a more traditional Alentejo experience. It is surrounded by pine forests, countryside and the Serra da Grândola and provides a glimpse beyond the fashionable coastal side of Comporta.

North of Comporta lies the Tróia peninsula, a spectacular stretch of sand between the Atlantic Ocean and the Sado Estuary.
